SUN SAFETY
26th June 2017SUN
When the sun is strong, spend time in the shade, cover up with clothing and use sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and 4 stars.
Now the summer is approaching we ask for your help in making sure your child is protected from the sun during the summer months. The sun’s rays are particularly strong over the summer and they can damage children’s skin. This may not seem like a problem right now, but sadly it can lead to skin cancer in later life. Your child’s health and well-being are very important to us. We will: discuss sun protection in the sessions and advise the children about shady spots outside; actively encourage all children to wear a hat when they play outside; actively encourage the children to keep hydrated, refilling their water bottles where necessary.
We ask you to send your child to school wearing a sun hat and to apply sunscreen in the morning of at least factor 15+ and to cover up with clothing.
If you would like the staff to supervise the children applying their own sun cream, then please provide a named tube of sun cream in your child’s bag and advise a member of staff. We must have your written permission to apply the sun cream provided.
More information about skin cancer and sun protection in pre-schools, can be found on Cancer Research UK’s SunSmart website @
